Due to Unreal Engines recent announcement of going free, this months GameJam theme was "Set it free". I've never entered a Game Jam before and thought it would be a good challenge for both my technical and artistic skills. The competition ran from the 19th - 22nd of March but due to being busy with university work I only had half of Saturday and the rest on Sunday to make my entry. This put me under even more restraint time wise so I've kept it super simple, using a tutorial that Unreal Engine released as a framework to base the gameplay off giving me more time to create the assets and add the additional features I wanted in the game. For example procedural buildings, windows and colouring, more obstacle variety, speed increase as score increases, saved highscore, main menu etc.
Now I've experienced what is possible to produce in such a short period of time I'll definitely be entering more of the Unreal Engine Game Jams in the future. Also I'm helping host our own Game Jam at University soon with people from Game Art, Games Programming, Animation, Music all involved. If I can produce this on my own I can't wait to see what we get out of that.
